Getting Involved at Centretown United Church
Centre 507
Since 1983, Centre 507 has been an adult drop-in centre, a safe haven and stepping stone welcoming between 80 and 165 individuals a day.
Centretown/Centre 507 Community Garden
A team of volunteers from the Church, Centre 507, and the neighbourhood work from mid-May to October to provide fresh vegetables to augment the meal program at Centre 507. All green thumbs welcome! Click here to see "The Story of the Centretown / Centre 507 Community Garden"
As of May 1, 2023 the Centretown Emergency Food Centre located since 1978 at Centretown United Church has been renamed the Centretown Community Food Centre and moved to a new location at 370 Catherine Street in the Catherine Street Community Service Hub. The Centretown Churches Social Action Committee's (CCSAC) main project is oversight of the Centretown Community Food Centre (CCFC), the food bank serving Centretown, Old Ottawa East, Old Ottawa South and the Glebe.
UCW: United Church Women
A group of women who meet to express their Christian faith through worship, programs, fellowship and projects, such as dinners for the blind (CCB). To join, call the church.
Centretown United Refugee Engagement (CURE)
Partnering with Ottawa Centre Refugee Action (O.C.R.A.) and Carty House, a transition home for refugee women, we sponsor a lady from the Central African Republic.
Christmas Hamper Project
We deliver 182 hampers containing a holiday meal, groceries and gifts to the community. You can donate or adopt a hamper or volunteer at Christmas time. We welcome your support.
Centretown Knitters
A group of people who love to knit offer gifts of handmade shawls, hats, toques, and mitts to those who need a little extra warmth and TLC. Knitters are always welcome!
Carleton University Pause Table
During the Christmas and Easter exam periods, we partner with multi-faith groups to provide nourishing snacks for students at Carleton University to ease their stress. Donations of snacks are welcome.
Centretown Book Club
We meet 3-4 times a year. All are welcome to read and discuss a range of genres from memoir to fiction.
Senior Choir
We welcome new members who love music. Choir practice is Thursday 7:30 to 9pm. The choir leads the congregation in singing.
Bell Choir
We welcome new members. Bell practice is Sunday noon to 1pm. We play 5 -6 times per year in the Sunday morning services.
258 Argyle Avenue
In 1991, we signed a 50 year lease with the Centretown Citizens (Ottawa) Corporation (CCOC) for the construction of affordable housing - a 7 story building with 44 units and on- ground / underground parking.
