Adopt A Hamper
The community of Centretown Ottawa is experiencing unprecedented levels of homelessness, families who are unable to put a basic meal on the table, and most disturbing, an erosion of hope. We, as a community can make a difference. By coming together we can deliver smiles, joy and show people they are loved.
Please consider giving in any way you are able, every gift matters and all contributions are channeled directly to those in need.
If you wish to contribute by adopting a hamper, thank you so much! A gift such as this at this time of year, can literally make a world of difference for those in need. Year after year, we hear incredible stories of gratitude and mercy. We hope we can count on you to help those in need this Christmas.
We have heard from many of you who have struggled to keep the tradition alive so this year we are reducing the complication of purchasing goods by simplifying the gift lists, and we are easing the financial burden by reducing the amounts of the gift cards.
Hampers:
The hampers will consist of gift(s) and a Gift Card. In terms of the gifts, a suggested list of gifts will be provided and we ask that you keep the cost of the gift for each recipient to between $25 and $40. The Gift Cards are to be purchased from either Loblaws or Your Independent Grocer. The amount of the Gift Cards are:
- A Single Adult: $100
- A Small Family (up to 5 members): $150
- Large Families (more than 5 members): $200
- Group Homes (10 adults): $250
The hampers will be limited to a single photo-copier paper sized box for singles, two boxes for small families, and three boxes for large families and group homes.
The Gift Cards are to be placed and sealed in a Holiday Greeting card. Keep the Holiday Greeting card with the enclosed Gift Card separate from the sealed hamper so they can be handed over to our crew for safe keeping when the hamper is dropped off. Please label the Holiday Greeting Card with the hamper number.
Label:
Please label your box(s) clearly with your hamper number.
Drop Off:
The Hampers are to be dropped off at Centretown United Church between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm on Tuesday, 17 December. Volunteers will meet you at your car and they will take your hamper from your car into the church for safe keeping. Please turn right into the laneway off Argyle Street 30 metres from Bank Street (Argyle is one way, west to east).
Tax Receipt for Gift Card Purchase:
- A self-addressed (name should be the recipient of the tax receipt) and stamped envelope
- Receipt for the gift card purchase
You will be mailed the tax receipt at a later date.
